I understand if these messages include massive amounts of exclamation points. however, when i try and lay down some drums using the midi drums, i am getting really glitchy midi over the USB, and in cubase. Toon track EZ Drummer and Native Instruments FM8. As always, please leave a comment or send me a personal message. am also running a cheap electronic drum kit (Alesis turbo mesh kit) using its built in MIDI interface and running only two virtual instrument plug ins.

I was literally setup and playing/recording in ONE HOUR! Not only was I very impressed by how quick and comfortabe I felt using this system, but the sounds! I can't even begin to describe how well these samples are recorded! If you're not familiar with software samples: They are ACTUAL recordings of ACTUAL drums like Tama - DW - Pearl - Mapex - Orange County - GMS - Yamaha - and Many others! Now, I can play an RET kit that feels acoustic, with the same look and sound of an acoustic! It beats using a module sound, hands down. Here, we're using EZDrummer, but any combination using great software samples of your choice is also cool. I use it to drive SSD4, EZDrummer, and recently I got Superior Drummer as well.

I installed the Windows drivers, plugged in the kit, fired up Reaper, and activated the DTX as a MIDI device for input. The Yamaha only has USB for MIDI (no 5-pin DIN). Play the sounds from virtually any MIDI software, drum module, synthesizer or keyboard workstation, or other MIDI instrument with your sticks. I use Yamahas DTX400K, which is pretty similar to the Alesis. The ControlPad is an eight-pad playing surface that you can connect to software via USB and hardware sound modules via MIDI.

RET recently contacted me to do a series of VPT videos to show how Easy and Awesome VPT really is. The Alesis ControlPad is a compact performance instrument and drum-programming tool. So Chester Burnett has nailed what I'm going for. This is EZDrummer in the VPT (Virtual Percussion Technology)system with an RET Percussion drum kit. And as I would have had to lift the tracks from the SR18 and inport an MP3 file into my DAW it seems the easier option. (The hardware route maybe more like the SDRUM from digitech - hit the pedal, scratch some rhythm on the guitar, hit the pedal - auto drum! But giving up on hardware.)Īs Codamedai says - there's a whole lot more about EZdrummer I've missed in looking at the demo. On the other hand at least I've evaluated whether I got this wrong the first time as I didn't have time - or should I be giving this a good go a 2nd time? Nope! I found programming a song with EZdrummer way easier - well actually good fun. What's strange is I can connect my Alesis Sample Pad and it connects without issue. My issue is I can't get the midi connection to happen using either USB or MIDI to USB from the module to the computer. I just can't bring myself to get into the Quick Start Manual, and the Reference Manual, and the MIDI trigger sheet, and the drum pattern sheet.why am I doing this stuff when I'm a musician and would get better ROI from guitar practice and arranging songs for the band?.it's gone back!! I have an Alesis DM10 Studio kit and I'm trying to use the pads to trigger sounds in EZ Drummer 2 through Reaper.

Well fortunately the SR18 was on trial - the second time I've bought one - and you know what - it's just as difficult to programme as I found it the first time. Especially if you find yourself paying for hourly studio time at some point. It forces you to have nice tight arrangements which can come in handy when you’re recording. If you’ve never played to tracks before it can be a little scary at first but a lot of pros use backing tracks live. I have a friend that runs backing track from an MP3 player into his small mixer. From there you can use anything that will play a midi file. I just exported the completed drum tracks to a midi file. I didn’t actually run EZdrummer when playing live. I find it easier and more organic than programming them. I'm not a drummer but by going one drum piece at a time I can do things I can’t find a loop for and it comes out pretty good. I use a pair of drum sticks to trigger the EZdrummer kits. The MIDI OUT jack allows for transmitting MIDI data that originate from theFBQ1000. any controller data received at the MIDI IN of the FEEDBACK DESTROYER will be transmitted via the MIDI THRU jack to other MIDI devices/instruments. I use this KAT percussion multi trigger pad. The MIDI THRU jack is used to loop through incoming MIDI data, i.e. I’ve built tracks by doing one pass with just the snare, then I do a pass with kick, a pass with cymbals and so on. You can also use a trigger or drum pad to play your own parts using the EZdrummer kits, which sound far superior to the SR18 samples.
